A couple years ago I was getting treatment for drug use. It got to the point where my daughter had been taken from me. My lawyer said, “You can give her to someone in your family. You can do what you’re supposed to do to get her back. Or the state would take her and she’d be gone forever.”

Getting housing was the biggest obstacle to getting my daughter back. And I needed a job in order to get housing. So I came to JobsPlus.

Landing the job

JobsPlus helped me set a goal. They helped me get my resume together and with my interview skills, and they went over finances. There are many things they helped with.

JobsPlus sent my resume to Innovative Labeling Solutions. From that point on, they’ve been really good to me. The company was bought by another company. We’re now Brook and Whittle. I’ve been there 2 years, and it has been really good to be a part of a team, a family.

A job makes all the difference

I really use what I learned at JobsPlus today, with my bills. My credit score has gone up. There was a lot of mentoring that went on with JobsPlus. In class we would discuss the Bible, and it gave me hope.

Having a steady job means stability. My whole life I’ve been unstable. Through working, I have things like insurance and a 401k. I feel like I’m a part of something. It makes me feel proud to say that I’ve been at this company for two years.

Family and faith

Working has given me the opportunity to provide for my children. To give them the things that they want, but more important, the things they need like food and clothes.

I now have full custody of my 3-year-old daughter. It’s a special bond I have with her. I have recently got custody of my 9-year-old son. I purchased my first house. I’ve been able to give them a place that they can call home. I want to give them an opportunity at a good life.

I give all the credit to God. I go to church on a regular basis. My faith is my foundation.

It gives me hope that there are people out there like JobsPlus who still care. JobsPlus has changed my life.
