Tony’s story – This is one of the best times of my life

“This is one of the best times of my life.”

After a childhood with no father present, Tony followed what he had seen as a child – alcohol abuse. His addiction resulted in incarceration at River City Correctional Center. While there, he decided to own his problem and genuinely work on creating a new life. While staying in our shelter upon release from River City, he met with a dedicated mentor weekly. With his guidance, Tony has turned his life around in so many ways, such as:

Getting a job through our jobs program. Because of your support, Tony, a skilled trades-man, landed a job as a pipe-fitter over a year ago and has been working full-time since.

Reconnecting with family: Tony has been able to spend time with his son, Dominic, over the past year. “This is one of the best times of my life,” Tony said after seeing his son. Tony is doing everything possible to have many more days with Dominic.

Growing in his faith: Tony’s mentor has led him in Bible study since their mentoring relationship began over a year and a half ago. Tony is now attending church and has even brought friends to church.

Giving back: Tony has spoken to the residents at River City, encouraging them and showing them what’s possible with faith and hard work. He also leads a group of former River City residents who meet every week on our campus to help each other stay on the right path in their lives and in their faith walks.
